Building rituals into a remote week

By jon

Every six months or so I write down what’s been bothering me about the way we work. Most of these notes never become anything. The ones that do tend to be the ones I rewrite three times before pressing publish.

We tried, and partly succeeded, to write our reasoning down as we went. The artifacts aren’t pretty — they’re a Notion page with a lot of strikethrough — but having a paper trail of what we believed and when has saved us from re-litigating the same arguments at least twice.

Something we kept doing that worked: writing the next step before the current step felt finished. It sounds counter-intuitive, but having a sketch of where you’re going waiting on the other side of “done” makes “done” feel less like a precipice.
